Life After A Tampa DUI

As many of you may already know, a Tampa driving under the influence conviction does not end when all the fines are paid and penalties are satisfied. Unfortunately, this is the type of conviction that you will be asked about in other aspects of your life. Here’s a look at the three most common areas that individuals with a DUI conviction have to continue dealing with:

  1. Insurance—Insurance companies reward drivers for good behavior with reduced rates. Conversely, they punish drivers for what they consider bad behavior with increased rates. Things like car accidents that were deemed your fault and DUI convictions are the two main things that will serve to make your insurance premiums significantly increase for years.

Alleged DUI Setup in Attorney Charles Phillip Campbell Jr. Case

We have been covering the Bubba the Love Sponge Clem defamation trial from the beginning, including the unfortunate timing of his opposing counsels’ very public driving under the influence arrest in Tampa that served to delay the trial a bit. For a quick recap: attorney Charles Phillip Campbell Jr. was arrested for his second DUI (the first one occurring in 2008) after leaving a local Tampa bar. He refused to take a blood alcohol test and his ordeal delayed the trial another week.

Now it seems that there is a little more to the night at the bar than may initially meet the eye.…

Recent Grants Increase Tampa DUI Patrols

Tampa police are already some of the strictest in the nation when it comes to patrolling for DUI’s. And with the receipt of recent grant money, the city just got stricter. In fact, the entire county just got stricter as it relates to patrolling for DUI’s. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Tampa police, in addition to Hillsborough and Pasco County Sheriff’s offices each received grants aimed specifically at increasing driving under the influence patrols.

Immediate and Secondary Tampa DUI Penalties

Drinking and driving are two activities that should be enjoyed independent of each other. Always. A Blood alcohol content level of .08 or above for adult drivers is determined by a blood or alcohol test in Tampa; and although these chemical tests are not always accurate, they are an incredibly valuable piece of evidence to help the prosecution on their way to a DUI conviction.

The DUI process is a terrifying experience for many people. From getting pulled over, to field sobriety tests to the arrest and booking, the real stress comes if there is a Tampa DUI conviction. Florida is considered one of the toughest states in the nation when it comes to penalties for a DUI conviction.…

A Look At Alternatives To Jail In Tampa: House Arrest

Sure the fines associated with a DUI are a gigantic financial inconvenience. Perhaps to some people much more than that. But the one thing that so many people worry about during their DUI trial has to do with the potential

for jail time. Not only is jail an unsavory place but mandatory jail time means that you cannot work and miss out on important pay days to make back the money you spent on the fines. When it comes to driving under the

influence in Tampa, police and prosecutors often try to inflict the harshest punishment possible, which of course includes jail time.

Can You Refuse A Chemical DUI Test In Tampa?

Driving is a privilege and not a right in the United States. Because of this important distinction, in order for the state of Florida to bestow upon you the privilege of getting behind the wheel, you have to agree to some important conditions. One item you agreed to went into place the second you signed for your license. Known as implied consent, Tampa drivers essentially consented to taking DUI testing whenever the police suspect you of driving under the influence. That may not seem fair since many of you would like that decision in the moment rather than having to say yes at the DMV years ago, but such is the reality of driving in Tampa.…

Can You Refuse A Breath Test In Tampa, Florida?

Driving with a BAC of .08 or above in Florida is a very bad idea. The police in Tampa are always on the lookout for drunk drivers and do not look kindly on those drivers that do not cooperate with the system. But a .08 BAC is not a number police can arrive at without the help of chemical testing. To determine with such specificity if a driver is over the legal limit in Tampa, police will often request that the driver take a breath test. The breath test measures a driver’s blood alcohol level by determining the amount of ethanol (a key ingredient in alcohol) in his or her breath.…
