Tampa DUI News – Tampa DUI Lawyer Tells TBO.com Plea Expected In Fatal DUI Crashes

Best Tampa DUI Attorney

The Tampa DUI lawyer representing Randy Archiquette on multiple Felony DUI charges has indicated that Archiquette will plead guilty before trial but it is still not been disclosed what charges the accused will plead to. According to Charles Traina, the assistant public defender handling the case, negotiations are on-going in the DUI manslaughter cases but there is no decision imminent on his plea or his client’s sentnce.

The DUI trial of Archiquette was set to begin October 18 but according to TBO.com, the website of the Tampa Tribune, prosecutors were seeking to delay the start of the trial. The Hillsborough County judge overseeing the trial warned both the prosecution and the defense that any plea would have to include specific Florida DUI penalties. Judge Thomas P. Barber warned he would not accept any plea that did not include minimum and maximum sentencing recommendations. The plea is set to be entered in front of Barber November 8.

The 40-year-old Riverview man was charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide following two separate fatal DUI crashes. He is facing other charges as well associated with the crash that involved four vehicles when all was said and done. Both fatalities took place in a 30-minute span killing two women.  Archiquette has been in jail since his DUI arrest in April of 2009. He is being held without bail after allegedly causing the deaths of a 69-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman.

TBO.com reported that Archiquette’s blood-alcohol-level was 0.147, which is nearly twice the legal limit in Florida, which is 0.08. While driving his 2007 Chevrolet Yukon, Archiquette is accused of rear-ending a tractor-trailer on Adamo Drive and then he side-swiped a car before rear-ending a second vehicle. At that point he is alleged to have struck a car head-on killing the driver.
