Tampa DUI News – Pasco Deputies Arrest Second Grade Teacher On DUI And Drug Charges

Tampa DUI arrest

A Pine View Elementary school teacher was arrested for DUI and is also facing prescription drug charges following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning. Second grade teacher Kerri Eriksen was arrested by a Pasco County deputy after she was initially pulled over by the Tampa Police for a suspicious driving pattern as reported by TBO.com.

Eriksen was driving a Ford Mustang when an officer reportedly observed her crossing three lanes at a time on more than one occasion while driving on Land O’Lakes Blvd. The Tampa Police Officer eventually stopped her Mustang at 4:30 a.m. near Swans Landing Drive. At that point a Pasco Sheriff’s Deputy took over the investigation.

The reports state that Eriksen smelled of alcohol and showed other signs of impairment like watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. She allegedly agreed to take part in field sobriety tests at first but then changed her mind. The deputy did report that she was swaying and unsteady and that she also refused to take a breath test.

While at the jail Eriksen was allegedly found in possession of illegal prescription drugs. She was found to be in possession of Alprzolam and clonazepam. According to TBO.com Alprozlam is also known as Xanax and both types of drugs are anxiety medications. The discovery of the prescription pills led to drug charges on top of her Tampa DUI arrest. Eriksen was charged with DUI, two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and introducing contraband into a detention facility. She was booked into the Land O’Lakes Jail and later released on $9,000 bail.

The Tampa Tribune apparently tried to reach the teacher for comment on her arrest but was unsuccessful. There was also no mention on what would happen to her as far as her job is concerned with the opening of area schools just two weeks away.
