High School Basketball Coach Arrested On DUI Charges In South Tampa

A traffic stop on Azeele Street led to the arrest of the new girls basketball coach at Armstrong High School. Patrick Kelly, the former assistant coach for the boys, took over the job with the girls squad just three weeks ago. Now he is facing a DUI prosecution following an early Sunday morning stop.

According to an article on tampabay.com police reported that Kelly was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road at 1:15 a.m. Sunday. He was pulled over by Tampa police. Upon stopping the 32-year-old, police said they noticed Kelly’s eyes were glassy, his speech slurred and there was a smell of alcohol. He was taken to Orient Road Jail after refusing to take a blood-alcohol test. Kelly is an English teacher at the Hillsborough County high school and his status with the school is currently under review.
